batonnet: (got that obsession with death)
☄ First Impressions

♚ VISUAL: 178cm/5'10", and 68kg/150lbs. Somewhere in the 20-22 range physically. White hair and pale blue eyes. His build is good but not spectacular. When he's being a civilian, he'll probably be in dark buttondown silk bullshit like this or this; if he summons up his Being A Servant shit he looks like this. (That's third ascension art, so, spoilers if you don't wanna see it.) Under the coat, that outfit looks like this. I know. I know.
♚ DEMEANOUR: HE IS KIND OF AN EEYORE in terms of demeanor. A real Debbie Downer. Charles is not extremely social and keeps to himself a lot, and is just overall not great at connecting with people or making friends, even though he does care about people. His own self-loathing and -deprecation often get in the way of having normal conversations or, like, fun. In battle, or when talking about battle or his occupation, he can slip into a much more troubling tone blah blah beheadings blah blah separate the sinners from their sins, so, watch out for that. The boy ain't right.
♚ SOUND: He is Miyano Mamoru! SPOILER WARNING for that link again if you don't want to see final ascension art. Anyway, he's a soft-spoken and polite person with a gentle voice. He is French, so he probably has a French accent.
♚ SCENT: I can't think of anything notable here. I am sure he just smells generic clean, unless you mean in a metaphorical sense, where he probably smells like death and blood and all that poetic junk. Since he's a Servant and all and they are poetic metaphorical figures there is probably some of that and some SHARPENED METAL BLADE lingering around him???
♚ MENTAL INFORMATION: As an Assassin-class Servant he doesn't get mental shields that I am aware of, so if your character wants to read his mind or mind-control him or whatever, I'm up for it. I'd rather be in contact about that than try to cover it all here.
♚ MAGICAL INFORMATION: Charles is a Servant! That means he's kind of a ghost, and also extremely magically powerful. Heroic Spirits are pretty intense concentrations of magical energy in his canon. Even a 2* like him will ping hard as being a very powerful dead spirit.

☄ OOC

♚ BACKTAGGING: I can be slowish sometimes when life gets busy, so I am all for this! As a note, in game settings I tend to burn out on threads after around a month unless they're very clearly going somewhere important.
♚ FOURTHWALLING: SURE, GO FOR IT. FGO dabbles in this plenty, with references to the gag manga and characters knowing their own rarity and so on. If you come up to him and call him a shitty 2* he'll know exactly what that means.
♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: I am OOCly up for anything. ICly, he's a little fucked up about it, and you'll have to knock down some walls of self-loathing unworthiness first, but sure. He's not opposed to things like that. He is pretty obsessed with Marie Antoinette, though, and can you really compare to that?
♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: SURE THING. I'm gonna make a post about all his Servant junk here.
♚ RELATIONSHIPS: See Physical Affection, really.
batonnet: (you're nothing like mine)
Sanson is a Heroic Spirit/Servant! I'm not gonna explain the whole Fate system of what that means in depth here, but basically, he is a historical figure who died and had his spirit sent to the Throne of Heroes, from which it can be summoned by the Holy Grail into one of several classes. Here's some unhelpful jargon on that kind of thing. Seriously, good luck.

Charles is not very powerful as far as these Servants go! In a meta game sense, he's a 2*/Bronze Servant. In an in-world sense, he's an Assassin, the weakest class, and also a relatively recent death in the scheme of things, and also he isn't exactly well-known and revered as a historical hero. He's just a dude who killed thousands of people in his lifetime, and was summoned for that reason as an Assassin—because he's a proficient executioner. That said, as a Heroic Spirit, he is still a hell of a lot more powerful than a normal human, and has special skills and powers to contend with in a fight! Which is what I will attempt to explain in this post.

I'm not really interested in powergaming with him or anything; canon itself is pretty inconsistent in terms of "no human can ever match a Servant OH WAIT THIS NORMAL HUMAN TOTALLY JUST ALMOST KILLED THE STRONGEST SERVANT BARE-HANDED LOL" so if our characters get into a fight, I'm all about working it out in whatever way is most fun for everyone! But here is a basic rundown of Servant abilities:
  • As a Servant, he doesn't need to eat or sleep (or presumably breathe), though he can do so, and it will help him regain energy.
  • He can dematerialize his form, at which time he's only visible to other spirits like him. However, he can't teleport.
  • If he takes non-fatal injuries, they'll heal on their own over time unless the circumstances are exceptional, and it takes a lot more for an injury to be fatal.
  • He has some ability to sense other Servants/spirits like himself, at close proximity.
  • Extra strong and fast, blah blah things you'd expect of magical fighty things.

Some things specific to Charles:
  • Weapon: He fights with a great big claymore! Ta-da. He can summon and unsummon it at will, so it's not like he carries it around everywhere.
  • Noble Phantasm: His NP, which is like his extra special Ultimate Attack, is La Mort Espoir, wherein he grabs you with disembodied shadow hands and then guillotines you. Cool?! (In a meta sense, it deals damage, comes with chance of instant death, and chance to lower your defense.)
  • Executioner A++: He deals more damage against Evil-aligned enemies. Basically, if you'd answer a D&D character alignment meme with anything involving Evil, he will hit you harder.
  • Medicine A: He can magically heal himself or allies! In a more real-world sense, he's a doctor and can take doctorly care of people. He is a doctor from the 1700s, though, and while his medicine is more advanced than for that era, he's still not . . . totally up to date.
  • Human Study B: He can also deal more damage against humans (as opposed to things like monsters, etc.). Again, in a real-world sense, he is a doctor, and just like he knows how to heal people, he also knows how to take a person down.

As a note, I like playing with things like this in both a meta video game sense and a realistic sense, and will follow your lead in a thread. If we get in a fight and want to play with actual HP and damage-dealing and buffs and debuffs, I'm all for it! OTOH, if you want to play out a realistic battle where these skills translate into their logical counterparts and not "he gets a 40% attack buff against Evil alignments," I love that too. Or a combo of both! I will roll with whatever makes sense for the players and characters involved.
batonnet: (you're so mysterious)
To be edited with any relevant game info as needed!
  • Starter Kit: 1. The Student: 2 packets of ramen, 5 five hour energy drinks, a notebook, a pencil, a packet of cigarettes, a box of matches, an extra $400 in ones rubberbanded together that reads "For Textbooks Only" (he will in fact spend the $400 on textbooks)
  • Starter Clothes: James Sunderland lmao
  • He did not actually have anything on his person otherwise when he arrived, other than his sword and his Servant clothing which he can materialize at will
  • LET'S SAY HE HAD IMAGINARY AROUND EQUIPPED, THOUGH
  • I'm assuming that he can summon any version of his outfit (since in the game you can set the sprites to lower ascensions if you want) so until he can afford normal human clothes that aren't James Sunderland he will probably go around wearing his first ascension clothes because they stand out . . . somewhat less . . . than the third ascension horsecoat. Again, here's that outfit without the coat. lol.
  • Speaking of ascensions, I'm just gonna play him with the same stats as my Sanson in FGO EN:
    • HP 8,309
    • ATK 5,956
    • LVL 65
    • That's with Imaginary Around which also buffs his Quick by 25%
  • REGARDING MASTERS: I'm not opposed to him taking one in QM! Right now I am just rolling with the ever-ambiguous "something about the game setting is sustaining his existence in this world without a Master" but I'd definitely be interested in someone contracting with him sometime if it comes up. If it does we can discuss! If you have no idea what this means we can also discuss!
